Our counselling in the Twickenham area offers an opportunity for individuals experiencing a variety of issues such as depression, anxiety, stress, anger and even trauma. Likewise, counselling is great at relieving work stress, relationship problems, physical pain, loss and bereavement in a supportive and helpful way. This treatment is best applied where a fully structured psychological approach, such as CBT, isn’t considered necessary.

History of Counselling

Like CBT, counselling has its foundations in ancient Greek practice. However, modern-day psychotherapy is better attributed to Sigmund Freud. Then came Carl Rogers who developed the ‘person-centred’ approach we know today, which focusses on warmness, and genuineness between therapist and client. Counselling has continued to be built on by practitioners throughout the years and retains its position as a well-respected therapy to help clients overcome the symptoms of a variety of mental health problems, and better understand their situation.
