FAQs

How long is a therapy session?

Each session lasts 50 minutes, also known as “the therapeutic hour”.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends. For some it may be a few weeks, for others it will be a few years. I work in an open-ended way which means that we can work together for as long as you find it helpful.

How frequently will I need to come?

Regular attendance is necessary in order to build a strong therapeutic alliance and therefore the minimum is one session a week. For some people, it will be helpful to have more than one session a week, which we can negotiate. Either way, your slot(s) will be reserved and will always be on the same day and time.

Keep in mind, however, that once you start therapy, new issues, perspectives, and angles can arise that you might not have been aware of, that you then want to explore. It is, of course, possible to also see improvement faster than you expected!

Do you prescribe medication?

No. I am not a medical doctor. If you want to discuss starting or stopping psychotropic medication, I’d encourage you to make contact with your GP.

What should I expect in the first session?

A lot of people have mentioned how they did not know what to expect in their first meeting with their therapist. The initial meeting is sometimes referred to as the assessment stage. This is a two-way process where we establish what the main problem is, what your goals are, and if we are a good fit for each other.

What is your cancellation policy?

I have a 48-hour cancellation policy. This means that as long as you inform me of your absence at least 48-hours in advance, then you will not be charged. Any cancellations with less than 48-hours notice are charged in full.

How / when do I pay for the sessions?

I invoice monthly for the sessions that took place in the previous month. I accept cash and bank transfers.

Will the sessions be confidential?

Absolutely. Everything discussed in our therapy sessions is confidential. The only exception is if you are in danger of yourself or others. If that’s the case, then I would have to involve other professionals, such as your GP.

Can I use my health insurance to pay for my sessions?

It depends on your insurance policy. I am registered with most insurance companies so please let me know in advance if you are planning on claiming the therapy costs on your insurance.

Is there parking available?

Yes. There are lots of pay & display bays around my clinic, with most of them offering free parking after 18:30.
